For Bankrate.com we wanted to understand the site's issues and their severity. Usability testing was performed with participants in their homes. This ethnographic approach revealed particularly useful insights which influenced the experience (e.g. pop-up blockers, interruptions, off-line influencers).
We established business objectives and customer goals based on a combination of interviews, surveys, and traffic log analysis.
We developed a set of personas based on the different behavior profiles revealed during the research phase. Personas were used to drive design decisions.
A content inventory and card sorting was performed to organize the site's massive mix of evergreen content, topical content, applications, and tools.
Paper prototypes were then used to test the design prior to development. Findings from the prototype testing were used to improve the design prior to launch.
